Week 3: Sketch and designs


This week i have been working on designs for a hoodie. The reason for me using a hoodie is because it one of the items which i am mostly attached to. Kurt cobain was deeply attached to his guitar and used his talent through his guitar to become who he is now known to be . Like wise i will use an item which i am also attached with and show how my talent can be implied with the object to express who i am.

Unfortunetaley i wasnt able to order a hoodie which i could add my designs to. And i did not have enough time to create one using fabric pens . 

• i used a mix of the fender guitar and an image from kurt himself to create a design which was to be placed at the back of the hoodie
• I also try to make it into a logo style so that i could be simplified
• I also made it into a grapghic artwork style

Week2: Music Career

Kurt Cobain ( kurtis donald Cobain) was an american singer and song writer .He was said to be one of the most ' iconic rock musicians in history''. Mtv ranked him in 7nth place in the ''22 greatest voices in music''. Through time he andafew others became band nirvana and with the single 'smells like teen spirit' they enterend into the mainstream music industry but with a new style of music which was classed as grunge

• Since their debut they have sold over 50million copies world wide
• Grunge became a dominant genre of music in the U.S in the 90s

Kurt Cobain the Artist

Kurt Cobain was also a talented young artists. He loved oil pastel paintings and his room was described to look like an art studio.As a child he used to draw his favourite characters. His best known works where mostly recognised on his designs for the nirvana covers. Kurt did paintings drawings sculptures and colages and video montage

• Gory imagery and humans with deformed body structure
• Wierd and hard to understand the concept behind some paintings such as ..the alien with the red rose...
• The beautiful sunflower backgroundwith the dark bloody body

• He was attached alot to his  guitar / The guitar with the snake wrapped around it may show that it belongs to him alone
• He made funny comic strips 

Ideas Continued 

• Fender bender - Create a design that you can apply on a fender guitar that represents Kurt. 
• Find an object that i am attached to and make a design on it that represents my personality or feelings or somthing that i believe in. Or base my design on Kurts lifestyle ,Art or music 

           - Hoodie  - Phone - Trainers - Hat - ect

Kurt Cobain

Week 1 : Early Life

• He was born on february 1967 in aberdeen (washington) which was described to be declining in its indutry.
• Despite that Kurtis lived a happy child hood. And was centre of attention in his family
• At the age of 7 his mother and father divorced which dramatically changed his personality. He became rebelious and his friend described him as a '' free spirit''. He also witnes domestic violence towards his mother.
• At 17 he was kicked out the house and lived with his friends christian family for a year. Although he denounced christianity , it played a big role in his music career alot as he would use religous imagery and sysmbolism in his music such as ''heartshaped box'' and ''litium''. He mocks the crucifix of Jesus to show he is against the religion 

• Age 18 he wasnt attending any education and had no job due to the high level of unemployment in the area
• Living with his friends he had no other option but to turn to music .

Influences

• The melvinvs  - They where another rock group at the time who where lowkey and where not comercially succesfull but they inspired a younger generation such as Kurt
• The beetles - In a journal Kurt Cobain descbrided John lennon from the beetles as his ''idol' . He  said he used to listen to the beetles as a kid and if he was lucky he would buy a single

Ideas :

1. Research how early life influences have affected  Iconic musicians, aritists ect and create a visual documentary on the simularities
2. Something in the area of religion and identity 
3. Mirror myself with kurts life

Project 22: Too Sweet

I designed a new chocolate bar called' caramel chocolate bra'. I manipulated the word bar into bra to so that it still sounds the same. I then created a chocolate bar in the shape of a bra .

Project 20 : Im game

I have created a Game to for grapghic designers. The game is also like a grapghic lesson. The judges pics out a card containing images and places it in one of the four boxes. Now just like a grapghic lessons all the players really have to do is complete the brief and draw the image according to the style in the box wich it was placed in. The ' skate or die' project inspired me to create this game as i realised you can draw one thing but in varius diffrent art styles eg. typograpghic or conceptual.

Project 18: Holiday Havoc

For this project the brief was to document youself doing something that you wouldnt normaly do.After heavy thinking i came uo with the idea of trying to listen to as many diffrent genre types of music as i could. I have used alot of the colour blue because i fel like that is the coulour that represents music

Project 16: Haymakers

For 3 days in a row , i tookpictures of the sun rising.. There was not much sun these past weeks but luckily i caught it one day .. The task was to create art so wanted to make an urban style grapghic attempt because where i live there are quiet a few tall blocks. I ampleased with my final outcome.
